As the new year begins, it’s easy to get swept up in the rush of resolutions, endless to-do lists, and high expectations for personal and professional growth. But what if, instead of diving headfirst into the hustle, we started the year with intention—a conscious decision to create balance, nurture ourselves, and explore the world around us?
Over the years, I’ve learned that setting clear intentions and goals is a powerful way to shape our experiences. Whether it’s through my work as a dancer, educator, Certified Pilates Instructor, or travel retreat leader, one recurring theme has always been the importance of prioritizing self-care and travel. These aren’t luxuries; they are essential practices that help us stay grounded, inspired, and ready to take on whatever the year brs4ings.

Setting Intentions vs. Goals
Intentions and goals often get lumped together, but they serve different purposes. Goals are concrete, measurable outcomes—like getting stronger through a consistent Pilates practice. Intentions, on the other hand, are about how you want to feel or show up in the world. Intentions guide your mindset and behavior, keeping you aligned with what truly matters.
This year, instead of focusing solely on outcomes, I encourage you to set an intention that supports your well-being. For example:
Move with ease and joy.
Stay present and open to new experiences.
Prioritize what nourishes my body and soul.
Once your intention is clear, you can set goals that support it. If your intention is to nourish your body and soul, your goals might include committing to a regular Pilates practice, integrating a new wellness routine, or planning a trip that feeds your adventurous spirit.
The Importance of Prioritizing Self-Care
Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and spa days (though those can be wonderful!). True self-care involves listening to your body and mind, setting boundaries, and giving yourself permission to rest and recharge. For me, self-care means carving out time to practice Pilates, dance, and yoga—not just as exercise but as a way to reconnect with myself.
During my years teaching dance and leading trips abroad, I’ve seen firsthand how taking time for self-care can transform people. It’s not about escaping responsibilities but about replenishing your energy so you can show up fully in all areas of life. When you prioritize self-care, you’re better equipped to handle challenges, nurture relationships, and pursue your passions.
If you’re looking for simple ways to prioritize self-care this year, try:
Starting your day with mindful movement: A gentle Pilates or yoga session can set a positive tone for the day.
Scheduling downtime: Make rest a non-negotiable part of your routine.
Practicing gratitude: Reflecting on what you’re thankful for can shift your mindset and reduce stress.
Why Travel Should Be Part of Your Wellness Strategy
As a travel and wellness coach, I believe in the transformative power of travel. Stepping outside your daily environment helps you gain perspective, reconnect with your sense of wonder, and break free from routine. Travel invites you to slow down, immerse yourself in new cultures, and discover parts of yourself that may have been dormant.
Leading trips abroad has shown me how impactful it can be to take time away from the familiar. Whether it’s hiking through the Italian countryside, exploring cities in Spain, or simply soaking in the beauty of a quiet beach, travel creates space for reflection and renewal.
This year, consider making travel part of your self-care plan. You don’t have to go far or spend a fortune—even a weekend getaway can have a profound effect on your well-being. When you travel with intention, you open yourself up to growth, inspiration, and new possibilities.
Bringing It All Together
As you step into this new year, I invite you to pause and reflect on what you truly need. Set intentions that honor your well-being, create goals that support your growth, and give yourself permission to prioritize self-care and travel. Life isn’t about racing to the finish line; it’s about finding joy, connection, and meaning along the way.
So, let this be the year you move with intention, breathe deeply, and explore widely. Your wellness journey is uniquely yours—embrace it, nourish it, and watch how it transforms your life.
Wishing you a year filled with purpose, peace, and adventure.
I will be leading two wellness retreats this year. The first to Asheville, NC the first weekend of April (4-6) and the second to the Tuscany region of Italy in October.
